Your Workstation Could be Making You Sick.
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is an issue that must be addressed by architects, designers and manufacturers of furnishings and equipment. Nine states have mandated green construction for public buildings. GSA will be adding IAQ requirements to its furniture specifications. It is the responsibility of every manufacturer of PACS furniture to transition to low emitting “green” component parts of their product with all possible haste.
In 2004, the IARC – International Agency for Research of Cancer – a division of the World Health Organization changed the designation of formaldehyde from a “probable” carcinogen to a known carcinogen. This action accelerates the and supports the need for further development of office and institutional furnishings which have lower formaldehyde emissions and contribute to the development of “greener” products.
