Case Study: Winnipeg Police Service
The First DataDock Deployment
The Winnipeg Police Service is continuously improving police service to the citizens of Winnipeg through their ongoing community commitment. They currently serve approximately 700,000 citizens and have 6 dispatch stations working around the clock. Winnipeg has 4 dispatchers, 14 call takers and 2 supervisors working for the Winnipeg Police and 911.
Winnipeg recently built a brand new facility to create a safe and less stressful environment for their valuable staff. In doing so, the Winnipeg Police Service took interest in upgrading their dispatch consoles to ergonomic workstations. XYBIX developed and delivered a custom solution working with the Winnipeg team to meet their needs with their turnkey technology.
The Winnipeg team assisted in the process of the first Data Dock deployment. This resulted in the center utilizing the new technology XYBIX had developed.
The DataDock is conveniently located at the back of the keyboard surface flush with the work surface. DataDock is designed to be an easily acessable connection point for keyboards, mice, touch screens, lights, and phones. By flipping up the DataDock, all of the cable connections are exposed for easy access. Dispatchers can replace personal ergonomic keyboards and mice in seconds without having to contact tech support. A cable management tray is located at the back of the surface to keep cables from dropping under the dispatchers console.
The Communication System Coordinator at Winnipeg, Dennis Danes initial thoughts were, the XYBIX solution offered an original ergonomic and technical design for dispatch and Call taking workstations. The DataDock is a new innovation that was not available on other vendors products. The keyboard or mouse can be switched out in seconds. This ability allows the dispatcher or call taker to modify their workstation to their ergonomic needs quickly and easily.
The XYBIX design team worked diligently with Dennis creating floor plans and layouts for the installation of their new work stations that optimized the use of space, productivity and workflow, says Ken Carson, XYBIX Vice President. Dennis Dane states, Its a good investment due to its operational and technical benefits. The DataDock ultimately pays for itself in a very short time. The DataDock offers a well managed solution for input devices eliminating the need to call in Technicians when either a mouse or keyboard fails. This eliminates operational downtime and expensive technician call outs which take valuable time and resources away from the communications center staff.
Overall, the DataDock has benefited the Winnipeg Police Service in a very positive way. Dennis is very happy with his XYBIX product and looks forward to doing business with XYBIX in the future.
